Used vehicle prices have made a lot of buyers rethink what they can afford and where they choose to buy. At Hull Dobbs Ford, a Ford franchised dealer, we see both sides of that conversation daily: buyers who need Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) warranty coverage and those who just need reliable transportation at the right price. This guide breaks down the differences honestly, so you can decide what fits your situation.

What Does Ford’s CPO Program Involve?

Ford’s CPO program, Ford Blue Advantage, has two certification levels: Gold and Blue. Both include a Carfax Vehicle History Report, 24/7 roadside assistance, and FordPass Rewards points. But here’s a look at how they differ:

Gold Certified

  • Ford models under six years old with fewer than 80,000 miles
  • Each vehicle goes through a 172-point inspection by Ford factory-trained technicians
  • Any component that doesn’t pass is replaced with an authorized new or remanufactured part
  • Comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty (subject to a $100 deductible per repair visit) and a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, both backed by Ford Motor Company

Blue Certified

  • Covers vehicles up to 10 years old with fewer than 150,000 miles
  • Includes makes other than Ford
  • Each vehicle passes a 139-point inspection with the same replacement standards
  • Comes with a 90-day/4,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty backed by Ford

Ford Blue Advantage vehicles are only available at Ford franchised dealers — independent lots and private sellers cannot offer this program.

Certified Pre-Owned VS. Standard Used: What You’re Paying For

A non-certified used vehicle is not subject to certification requirements. Condition, history, and inspection standards vary depending on where you buy. At Hull Dobbs Ford, most of our non-certified pre-owned listings include a Carfax report so you have the vehicle’s history before you commit. If the purchase price is your priority, a non-certified vehicle with a Carfax report is a legitimate option.

CPO vehicles cost more than comparable non-certified options. What you’re paying for is a documented inspection, any necessary repairs completed with authorized new or remanufactured parts, and warranty coverage backed by Ford Motor Company. For buyers who want close-to-new-car confidence at a used-car price, the CPO premium is worth the extra cost.

Why the Buying Experience at a Franchise Dealer is Different

There are things available at a Ford franchised dealer, like Hull Dobbs Ford, that simply aren’t available anywhere else. Here’s what comes with a franchise dealership that a private seller or independent lot can’t offer:

  • Ford Blue Advantage CPO vehicles
  • An on-site service department with qualified technicians available for maintenance, repairs, and warranty work after the sale
  • Financing through multiple lenders, with the option to pre-qualify online with no impact to your credit score
